Sunil Gavaskar born on July 10, 1949 in Mumbai, India, Sunil Gavaskar is a former Indian batsman. His record of 34 Test centuries took 20 years to be broken by Sachin Tendulkar in 2005.
The record-setting batsman has been a national hero to Cricket fans.His Spectacular career began with a bang with Scoring 774 runs against West Indies in 1971.
He was the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in Test Cricket.
He was the greatest Test scorer with the highest number of centuries to his credit during his times.
He has served as a captain of the Indian cricket team for a long time. However,the team did not fare well during his captaincy. He led the team in 47 Test matches, out of which, the team won nine, eight were lost and 30 were draw.

Under his captaincy, the Indian team won 14 ODI matches, lost 21 and two went without any result out of the 37 ODI matches.
Gavaskar played his last Test match against Pakistan in March 1987 and scored 117 runs. His last ODI match was against England in November 1987 in which he scored just four runs.
He dominated the Indian cricket and became famous for his meticulous approach as well as his distinctive headgear.
He became a commentator and columnist after he retired in 1988.
Sunil Manohar Gavaskar has been conferred with Padma Bhushain. He has written four books four books on Cricket and an autobiography, titled ‘Sunny days’. A Test Cricket Series between India and Australia has been jointly named after him and the Australian Cricketer, Allan Border as the ‘Border-Gavaskar Trophy’.
